Whiskeytown Res./ Trinity River 6-20-08

The salmon season is almost here on the Trinity.  I have been out scouting for fish.  Check tout the size of the Brown's.  I have been on Whiskeytown with ok results.  We are getting fish, but having to work to get limits.  I am ready to put down the hammer and start fishing.  I will have more updates as the season heats up.  Fish ON!!!!!

Sacramento River / Whiskeytown Res. 5-30-08

The striper season on the Sacramento is still going on.  The boat pressure in very low, I like it!!!!!  I had the Brewton Gang out again.  The Casino buffet will not be the same after them.  We got Lon Sr.his first striper after a big catfish and pike minnow.  We will still be fishing for striper for a couple more weeks.  Whiskeytown will be in full gear from here on out.  I will fish the Trinity for Springer's starting on June11th.

Whiskeytown / Sacramento 5-24-08

The striper season on the Sacramento was a little tough with the heavy winds this week.  We are still seeing some nice striper in the system.  I had a group on Whiskeytown yesterday.  Hard rain, wind, more rain and great fishing.  The guys I had said if the fishing  was not good, this would not be good.( I think they used another word).  We hooked over 30+ fish.  We took home 17 kokanee, 2 king and a brook trout for 4 guys.  Terrry won the trip at the CIFF dinner in March.  I went right back to a Sep's 4/0 gold starlite and a hot orange kokanee kandy.  The fish were in the 30-40ft range at 1.1 mph.  The biggest fish came in at 16", with a lot in the 13"-15" range.  The boat action was 0 with the weather, the sail boats had a great time too.  I will be in Colusa this week and then back on Whiskeytown.  I am going to the Klamath for a couple of week this summer, please let me know.  I have a few dates still open.  The Trinity is on its way down.  I will start looking for springers in 3 weeks.  Please do not wait for dates for this season.  The salmon season is going to be big, so is the pressure.  Our steelhead season is going to be just like last year, but I think we are going to be able to take 2 steelhead per day.  We will find out all the new reg. on June 27th.  I am making great headway on our new office.  I hope to have it open in Sept.

Sacramento River 5-18-06

The striper season on the Sacramento is still going on.  I have been down in the Colusa area fishing striper and then back to work on our new shop and office.  I can just tell you the new space is BIG!!!!!  I have been working hard with the local guides to form a Trinity River Guide Association this season.  We are going to see one of the biggest seasons on the Trinity this year.  I hope you have your dates!!!!  We are going to have a lot of fish and a lot of people.  I will be fishing striper until June and working on Whiskeytown for kokanee.  Whiskeytown is full and the season will pick up quickly with the warm weather.  Sorry for the lack of reports.  I will have picture up soon of the new place.  Thank you  Steve

Sacramento River 4-18-08

It is Striper time!!!  The striper season on the Sacramento is heating up.  We are starting to see better numbers of fish.  The water is 56 degrees and has started to drop after the big push of water.  The fish are in the Colusa area.  We will have great action for the next 6 + weeks.  I still have some good dates open.  Don't miss out of the live bait action.

The steelhead season on the Trinity is finally done. I have been working around the house and starting up a Trinity River Guide Ass.  We are going to have a busy salmon and steelhead season on the Trinity.  Please book your dates NOW.  I am filling up quickly.  I have been on Whiskeytown looking for the water to warm up.  We will start seeing better numbers with the warmer weather due in.  I will start striper next week.  I will be working out of the Colusa area.  I still have some weekend dates still open.  I will be using live bait on these trips.  I have started my new shop and it is big.  I hope to have it ready for the fall season.  Fish On  Steve

Trinity River 3-15-08

The steelhead season on the Trinity is finally winding down.  We are still seeing a fair number of fish caught.  I had a great vacation from the oars last week.  We sat by the pool and went to Disneyland for R & R.  I just got back from the Sacramento meeting about the salmon season.  We are in for a big shock.  The salmon season will be closed in the ocean from California to Oregon. Our fish on the Klamath and Trinity river look good for next year.  I can't tell you what is going to happen the recreational season on the Sacramento until the PCFM meets in early April.  We are hoping for a season.  I did get out and fish the Sacramento on Thursday late afternoon.  I caught a nice blue back steelhead on a plug.  I will be moving into stripers and Whiskeytown Kokanee next week.  I hope to have more information to pass on.  It is time to be heard or our fish will soon be gone. More to come.........

Trinity River 3-2-08

I knew this steelhead season was going to be good.  Great would be a better choice of words.  We had another good week.  The rains blew the water out Sunday and Monday.  We hit the water early Tuesday and got off to a great start in the first hole.  We saw 3 to 6 fish per trip this week.  There were a lot of down runners, but 1 or 2 fresh fish per trip.  I want to thank everyone for a great season.  I am working on a new video of the steelhead this season.  I am going to take a week off and go see the mouse.  I will get back for a few more days on the river and start looking for striper and kokanee.  We got a great deal on striper fishing in Colusa and great rooms rates at the casino.

I knew the fish were coming up the river slowly, but they made it here!!!  We had a great week on the river.  I found a group of wild fish and everyone caught fish.  There are still a lot of down runners, but check out the fresh fish.  That damn Gary did it again this year.  Check out the wild hen.  We videoed the release with the new cameras.  We just had Feb 28,29 come open.  Please call.

9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, now !!!! I knew the day would come this season.  On Friday I had the Brewton father and son team out again.  We ate, ate more and still ate food....We had a great day of fishing too.  We hooked 8 landing 5 nice fish.  On Saturday my streak came to an end.  We hooked 2 fish, but landed 0.  The guys understood, but were ready to do it again Sunday.  It only took about 5 minutes to change everything.  Fish On and landed.  Dave and Lloyd ended up with 8 fish.  Pressure is heavy with the long weekend and the weather is just too nice.  The weather is going to change next week, bring on the rain.  Still looking for some more wild fish ??? Where are you???? Check out the pictures of the bald eagles Dave took on our trip.

Steelhead fishing slowed down a little this week.  The weather has been beautiful this week.  This is nice to melt the snow, but not good for fishing steelhead.  The Brown's have started to pick up with the warmer weather.  We are still seeing a good 3 to 5 fish per trip.  We are going to get some more rain next week, this is good.  Check out Derek with his first steelhead, both Derek and Dad were proud.

Steelhead fishing will go well into March this year.  The snow is melting and the water is cold.  The bite is short and quick, you must take your time.  I had the pleasure of having Allen and Cal from the FishSniffer this week.  We will have a great story and pictures in the next issue, check it out.  Check out the picture of 2 steelhead in one net.  Jim from Napa got both to the net.  The weather is great and the pressure is high this weekend.  Fish On!!!

Steelhead fishing is just a beautiful thing after a snow storm.  We are still seeing 3 to 7 fish per trip.  The average is about 5 lbs.  There are a lot of down runners right now and fresh fish moving up.  I hope you bring your snow shoes, chains and shovel.  The snow has made it tough to launch and take out.  I only have a few dates left in this season. Fish On!!!

Steelhead fishing is still going strong.  The weather is just what we needed to push more fish up.  The creeks are all running now.  I am over my ISE flu bug.  I had to break down and go to the doctors and take a couple of days off.  We are getting a lot of snow.  This is helping to hold the river shape.  Please be careful when coming over,  you better have chains with you.  We are still seeing 3 to 8 fish per angler. Fish on!!!  Steve
